Our policies regarding prescribing Heartworm medications are as follows: (1) patients must have an annual physical examination with our doctors within one calendar year, and (2) patients must have a negative heartworm test within that specific calendar year. Heartworm disease is an extremely dangerous cardiovascular/respiratory disease complex, and our medical staff highly respects the importance of continual heartworm prevention compliance. Heartworm medication is prescription medication by federal law, and our staff will comply with those regulations.
DISCLAIMER: Clients must always be aware that due to federal and state guidelines regarding dispensing pharmaceuticals, a valid, current veterinarian-client-patient relationship must exist before we can dispense prescriptions. Please refer to the caution statement displayed on medication labels. That statement is as follows: "CAUTION: Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.” Our organization values all animals' welfare and well-being, and we appreciate clients' respect and understanding for the laws we have to follow. Thank you |
